I read 43 books last year- here are my top 6

Setting out to conquer my ambitious goal of reading one book per week in 2023, I came pretty darn close. However, this year, I'm shifting gears. My new goal is to ditch books that don't ignite my passion and focus on quality over quantity. Sure, I'll likely still hit that 52-book mark, but with a lower completion rate. Out of the 43 books I delved into, here are the ones that left a lasting impression
Don't forget, you can keep up with my reading escapades on Goodreads. Share your top picks from last year—I'm always on the lookout for recommendations!

Demon Copperhead: Unraveling the Tapestry of 90s Turmoil

Venturing more into historical fiction than my usual non-fiction terrain, I found the storytelling in 'Demon Copperhead' to be captivating. It paints a vivid picture of a community grappling with poverty during the 90s crack epidemic. The narrative skillfully explores a major group of people, making it a must-read.

Down the Drain by Julia Fox: A Wild Celebrity Memoir

  1. Julia Fox's rollercoaster life story is a wild ride, and I'm here for it. Her memoir delves into the complexities of an abusive/manipulative relationship, offering words to feelings that are often hard to articulate. If you're into celebrity memoirs, this one is a top-tier pick.

Hinds Feet in High Places: A Spiritual Journey of Resilience

  1. 'Hinds Feet in High Places' might be a quick read for some, but I took my time absorbing its profound depth. Rooted in Christian allegory, it stood out from others in the genre. Certain chapters resonated deeply, offering insights that vary with each revisit. A go-to book during challenging times, with quotes like, "Bread corn is bruised, but no one crushes it forever."

The Hard Sell: Unraveling Pharma's Dark Secrets

  1. Embarking on the journey of a pharmaceutical company amid the rise of painkillers, 'The Hard Sell' unfolds a tale that's both scary and eye-opening. The book's narrative sheds light on the complexities surrounding the pharmaceutical industry and its consequences. Not surprising that it inspired a Netflix series.

The Simple Path to Wealth: Finance Wisdom without the Fluff

A classic I finally ticked off my list, 'The Simple Path to Wealth' emerged as a must-read for anyone navigating the finance realm. Unlike some finance books that patronize their readers, especially young women, this one offers step-by-step advice with a refreshing approach. It feels like a wise father imparting straightforward guidance to his savvy daughter. A hard copy to revisit throughout life.

Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus: Timeless Relationship Wisdom

Another classic I embraced in 2023, 'Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus' will undoubtedly remain a reference throughout my marriage. While the advice may seem cliché, it resonates deeply with practical tips that have made a tangible difference. A simple switch, like changing "Can you take out the trash?" to "Would you take out the trash?" has proven surprisingly effective in my own relationship.
Cheers to another year of literary exploration! Stay tuned for more bookish adventures on my Goodreads shelf.
