Transform Your Home for Halloween

Transform Your Home for Halloween

Believe it or not, Halloween is literally right around the corner, and it's one of my absolute favorite holidays to decorate for—right up there with Christmas. There's something so thrilling about the spooky season, especially when you have little kids. You can get as wild and creative as you want, and it’s seriously SO much fun!

The key to decorating for holidays, for me, is to add just 1-2 new pieces each year. This approach lets me build up my collection over time without splurging on decor that’s only up for a month. Plus, it gives me the chance to curate a setup that I truly love, rather than ending up with a bunch of stuff I want to replace next year.

This year, we added these amazing Harry Potter candles above the dining table, and let me tell you, it’s pure magic at night. They cast the most enchanting glow, and my kids are obsessed.

When it comes to holiday decor, I usually prefer capturing the colors and vibe of the season rather than going for big, obvious signs that say “Happy XYZ.” But for Halloween, I make an exception. I embrace the gaudy and the tacky—it's part of the fun! I never thought I'd be the house with a blowup skeleton in the yard, but hey, why not? It’s Halloween, after all!

Tips for Spooky and Stylish Halloween Decor:

Start Small

If you’re just beginning to decorate for Halloween, start with a few statement pieces. Think floating witches hats, eerie candles, or a fun doormat.

Mix and Match

Don’t be afraid to mix different styles. I love combining spooky thrift store finds with Targets dollar section pieces.

DIY Magic

Get crafty! Some of my favorite decor items are DIY projects. Plus, it’s a great way to involve the kids and make decorating a family affair. These hanging lights are spiderweb placemats glued on a dollar section hand globe with a string attached.

Light It Up

Lighting is everything. Those Harry Potter candles transformed our dining area. Look for ways to add a magical glow to your space.
