Meaningful Christmas Decor

Meaningful Christmas Decor

Okay, let's get real. You constantly see influencers with a whole new setup every year for every holiday, right? It's either to make a quick buck off you or because they’re always buying the latest launches and then getting sick of them. It can feel so overwhelming. For me, the highlight of decorating for Christmas each year while growing up was taking out the same things year after year, forgetting about them, and then remembering the stories that came along with them. "Remember when we made that ornament together?" or "Remember when Mom fought with some lady on Black Friday for the big Santa in the yard?" That’s what makes it special for kids, not the newest Elf on the Shelf trend.

So, here’s a list of things I've slowly added to our collection that truly make Christmas magical:

 Thrifted Tablescape

Last year, my goal was to create a tablescape for hosting Christmas dinners. I thrifted all these items from different stores until I had a complete set. But OMG, I’m obsessed with the outcome – it’s perfectly vintage and mix-matched in the right way. These are items that will bring back that magical feel each time we unpack them for the year. The linen napkins are my great-grandma's, and they’re perfectly scalloped and beautiful.

Natural Decorations

I’m all about decorating with natural items and holiday colors rather than a big green and red sign that says “Merry Christmas.” Natural decorations can last through the whole winter season. I decorate with poinsettias in every little corner I feel is missing something. Costco has the best ones, and you can even order them on Instacart.

This year, I’m adding Ziva paperwhites to the decor to mix in with the red poinsettias. I’m going to order them right before Thanksgiving so they’ll be blooming (fingers crossed) just in time for Christmas.

Sensory Decor

This Ralph Lauren candle is an investment piece, okay? When I decorate, I think about the five senses. Smell is a big one; it just transforms you into a holiday mood. Hearing is another sense we often forget when decorating. I love to create a holiday playlist to play while we decorate, bake cookies, etc. It’s all about the vibes.

Wrapping Paper

Let’s talk wrapping paper. I like to go two routes: sometimes I’m all about a super classic, beautiful wrapping paper, and other times I’m into this funny personalized wrapping paper for each family member. I love them both equally but for different occasions. It's all about balance, people!

Knit Stockings

These are SO cute and nostalgic. I love doing stocking stuffers, and these adorable knit stockings fit any decor I’ve added or changed. They’re timeless, just like you. As far as what to stuff them with, don't worry I didn't forget.

DIY Advent Calendar

This year’s DIY project is an advent calendar. I bought a plain one from Amazon and added paint and stickers to make it come to life. I love that I can fill it with age-appropriate items each year.

By slowly adding meaningful items to your holiday decor, you create a rich tapestry of memories that your family will cherish year after year.
