Sometimes, when I’m working on re-decorating an area of my house, I get overwhelmed, especially with large, open spaces. Our home has a pretty open-concept floor plan, with the kitchen, dining area, and living room all connected. Trying to tackle the entire space at once can be too much, so I decided to start small. I chose to redo the laundry room first, which is next to the kitchen but a bit more enclosed. This manageable project gave me inspiration for future renovations and was inexpensive and easy to start with.
Lighting Upgrade
We replaced the dreaded boob light with a charming globe light, adding a touch of character to the space.
Painting and Moulding
I painted the walls and ceiling my favorite green-brown color. Depending on the lighting, it shifts between green, grey, and brown, which is a lovely way to introduce some color. Next, I added moulding halfway up the wall to split the room and applied leftover wallpaper from a previous project to the top half. I loved that wallpaper so much that I had to use it again.
Adding Details
For the finishing touches, we got a cream-colored trashcan and a new scalloped rug to enhance the design. We moved the cleaning supplies and replaced an old broom with a cream-colored one that matched the area. A shelf, which I painted to match, was hung up and styled with some artwork. Dryer sheets went into a cute box, and detergent was transferred into a glass jar. After a thorough cleaning, the room felt entirely new.

This project was quick and easy, offering a satisfying quick win with no hang-ups or delays. Now, it makes me so happy every time I step into the laundry room to do laundry. It's the perfect little confidence booster.
