If you think you’ve seen all of Oahu just because you’ve hit up Waikiki and Lanikai, think again! There’s so much more to explore, and as someone who called Oahu home for three amazing years, I’m here to spill the tea on five of my absolute fav hidden beaches. These spots are all about stunning views, chill vibes, and way fewer crowds. Let’s dive in!
Kailua Beach Park
Kailua Beach Park is like the low-key sister of Lanikai Beach, but don’t sleep on it. Located on the windward side, it’s got those dreamy turquoise waters and super soft white sand. Perfect for kayaking, paddleboarding, or just catching some rays. Plus, Kailua town nearby is packed with cute shops and yummy eats.
Where to Find It: Super accessible with plenty of parking. Perfect for families, solo chillers, or anyone in between. .
Electric Beach (Kahe Point Beach Park)
Electric Beach, or Kahe Point, is a snorkeler’s paradise. Thanks to the nearby power plant, the water here stays warm and clear, making it a hotspot for marine life. Think turtles, colorful fish, and sometimes even dolphins. But heads up – the currents can get strong, so be careful out there.
Where to Find It: On the west side near Kapolei. Get there early to snag a parking spot.
Cromwell’s Beach
Want something super secluded? Cromwell’s Beach is your jam. Nestled near Diamond Head in a residential area, it’s a hidden treasure with calm waters perfect for swimming and snorkeling. The rocky shoreline is great for sunbathing and picnics, and the views are straight-up stunning.
Where to Find It: A bit tricky to access, but worth it. Park near the Shangri La estate and follow the footpath.
Makua Beach
Makua Beach on the west side is all about those serene, untouched vibes. With a dramatic mountain backdrop and clear waters, it’s ideal for swimming, sunbathing, and even camping. And trust, the sunsets here are everything. If I were visiting again, this is not a place I recommend going on your own, especially as a young alone woman.
Where to Find It: Off Farrington Highway. No facilities, so bring all your essentials and leave no trace.
Malaekahana Beach
For a North Shore escape, hit up Malaekahana Beach. This long, sandy stretch is perfect for a quiet retreat, beachcombing, and picnicking. It’s part of a state park, so you can camp here too with a permit.
Where to Find It: Between Laie and Kahuku with a small parking area and basic facilities.
Oahu’s iconic beaches are gorgeous, but these hidden gems offer a more peaceful and unique experience. From the laid-back vibes at Kailua Beach Park to the underwater adventures at Electric Beach, there’s so much more to explore. So pack your beach bag, slather on that sunscreen, and get ready to discover Oahu’s best-kept secrets.
